Female Incontinence

Incontinence is something that affects millions of people every single day, however about 80% of these people has been shown to be females. This is a weird disorder and something that can go untreated due to the embarrassment factor it undoubtedly has; this is not the right move no matter how embarrassing it is. Incontinence is classified as involuntary loss of urine, which results in leakage and wetting accidents because the people who have it can not control when they have to go to the bathroom.

Generally there are two categories which anyone can fall under one of them is stress incontinence, which is loss of urine due to stress in the stomach, which can be caused by coughing, sneezing, lifting, or exercise. Another cause of this is known as Vaginal Prolapse, which is related to child birth and stress incontinence. It is when the pelvic floor becomes weak, which then causes certain organs to bulge into the vagina causing incontinence. The other category is known as urge incontinence, which is classified as a strong desire to urinate without any warning and no time to reach a bathroom before urination begins. This is probably the most embarrassing of the two. The cause is an overactive bladder the bladder decides its time to urinate at any moment basically, which can be very troublesome. This can be an early sign of MS, so you should consult a physician.

Diagnosis is done through questions and a physical exam one of the more common treatments is Kegel pelvic floor exercises, which strengthen the muscles that are involved during urination; however these exercises should be done regardless if you’re a women. Surgery is also an option in the case of stress, medications can help an overactive bladder as well, which are used to calm the bladder.
