While gas is something that many people suffer with on a regular basis, few know some of the most basic causes of gas. One of the most common causes for gas is the food that we consume. Certain foods such as beans, broccoli and cabbage are known for causing gas. Another common cause of gas is ingesting too much air. When someone breathes through their mouth, they usually have more air intake than others. Along with these causes, if a person consumes carbonated beverages they are also at an increased risk for gas.


Gas can be uncomfortable and embarrassing for most people so knowing treatments for it can be very beneficial to them. There are many products on the market that will help to reduce the gas before it starts. These products are usually consumed prior to a person eating the foods that are known to cause them gas. This can be a very effective way to control gas if a person remembers to take the over-the-counter remedy prior to eating their food. For people that swallow too much air, it is important for them to realize that they are doing this and attempt to be more aware of their breathing patterns to avoid this. Another natural treatment for gas is for a person not to lay down too soon after they have eaten. Often it is recommended that a person remains in either a sitting or a standing position for at least 30 minutes after eating to allow the food to be properly absorbed into the stomach and reduce the gas they will have.
