6 possible reasons for Hair loss
Hair loss is one of the most common phenomenon these days with rising stress, pollution, overmedication and the reasons related to our stomach too. While the hair loss has a direct connection with our personality, it aggravates the person’s perception of confidence and reduces it. One often complains of lack of confidence and personality subsistence while persistent depression and ignorance at the workplaces, schools and other places.
It is more suppressing a fact that males have more chances of hair loss than women due to male pattern baldness but women often complaint of hair thinning as well as hair loss too. This is damning and can severely hit your confidence level while attending interviews and public as well as social occasions too. The reasons can range from the simple and temporary- a vitamin deficiency to more complex health conditions concerning the stomach and pancreatic symptoms. The possible reasons for the same could be –
1. Excessive intake of Vitamin A
Often people tend to consume vitamins and proteins in quantity more than what is recommended for them. An overdose of Vitamin A can trigger hair loss as ascertained by the American Academy of Dermatology. As per the sanctioned dosage, the Daily Value of consumption of Vitamin A remains at 5000 International Units (IUs) for every day for adults and kids above the age of 4 years. But the Vitamin A supplements that the people take these days contain 2,500 to 10,000 IU. If you are having a hair loss then it is convenient that people reduce their Vitamin A intake and the hair is expected to grow normally back again.
2. Less Intake of Protein
It is important that all the nutrients are taken properly in order and less protein intake can also weaken the pores of Hair resulting in hair loss in men and women alike. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, protein serves as an important nutrient for the hair activity and hence must be taken properly at all times.
3. Male Pattern Baldness
By the age of 60, two out of three men suffer from hair loss but the number of such cases in the teenagers and adults has also increased over the past decade. Most of the time, the hair loss is caused by the Male Pattern Baldness. This type of hair loss is caused by a combo of genes and male sex hormone and is followed by a classic pattern in which the hair starts to recede from the temple area. This is very common in males from South Asiatic region who have a spicy food habit to start with. There are topical creams like Minoxidil (Rogaine) and oral medications such as finasteride (Propecia) that can halt hair loss or even cause some to grow, surgery to transplant or graft hair is also an option.
4. Female hormonal change
Often female complains of severe hair loss causing hair thinning and hair widening. While male pattern baldness can cause hair recede from the temple area but the female hair loss is different. The female hair loss can be triggered due to pregnancy hormones or due to going off birth control pills. This can also cause the Telogen Effluvium that might be arising out of family history. The change in the hormonal balance that occurs at the Menopause may have the similar result on your hair. As per Mark Hammond, MD, Dermatologist with Scotts & White Clinic in Round Rock, Texas, ‘The androgen (male hormones) receptors on the scalp becomes activated. The hair follicles will miniaturize and then you start to lose more hair.’
5. Emotional stress
Stress can lead to severe problems and hair loss can be one of the symptoms for that. Emotional stress can cause more damage to hair than the Physical stress as in the case of divorce, after the death, after the death of a loved one, or while caring for an aging parent. So, the emotional stress must be curbed earlier than expected to make it okay.
An underactive thyroid gland also known as Hypothyroidism can cause hair loss in the adult and old-aged people. The thyroid gland located in the neck region is critical to metabolism as well as growth and development. If the thyroid gland is underactive, it can cause severe damage to the hair growth and is most likely to trigger hair loss in the grown-ups.From the Web
