Reasons for White Spots on Skin and Their Solutions

Idiopathic Guttate Hypomelanosis
This is the skin condition where the flat spots sized about 2 to 5 mm occurs in the skin and can be found on the areas like Shin and parts of the Forearm which gets exposed to the Sun. Areas such as Neck, Back of Neck, Face or Shoulders can also be vulnerable to this problem. The Experts suggest that this could be possible a kind of white freckle caused by sun’s dangerous rays or even due to aging.
This is a harmless condition and does not require medical treatments as such. There is no such medicinal treatment for this but you can use some cosmetic steroid creams or localized dermabrasion to improve the skin over the spot. Try to not let the body be exposed directly to the sun or the problem might persist for many times.
Pityriasis Alba
This is also another common skin conditions found in young adults and children. Its beginning is always very uncharacteristic. It begins with an oval or round patch pf pink rough skin which later on fades to a pale color with time. They usually on the chin, cheeks as well as the skin surrounding the mouth. They can also appear on the legs, arms or the trunk part of the body. They may be dry or a bit itchy but too itchy patches are very rare. This is thought to be some form of eczema but more often than not, this case is the mild disorder.
You should take some medical help of the doctors to diagnose and get treatment for it. But in most cases, these get resolved with time does not require any alternative treatment as well. You should use a moisturizer to soften the dry patches.
Keratosis Pilaris
This is another harmless skin condition which is very general in nature in comparison to other skin disorders. It causes rough, small, red or white acne-like bumps or patches on the skin. These are usually found in the chest region, thighs and upper arms though they can also appear on the face sometimes. These may become red at some point and irritation might become persistent sometimes. This condition is caused by the accumulation of a protein known as the Keratin found in the skin. Sometimes this extra keratin may become dangerous and clog the skin pores or hair follicles to form the hard bumps characteristics of this condition. Keratosis pilaris typically impacts the adolescents and children and the symptom usually gets better and completely get resolved till the time they get old.
Once diagnosed with this skin condition, you should avoid scratching the bumps and should steer clear of the skin products with harsh chemicals which can dry your skin out. You should also try some soothing moisturizer to be more impactful.
Vitiligo
This is also a skin disorder where white patches get formed on the skin and can be caused by a deficiency of Melanin, the pigment which gives the skin its color. It can develop at any part of the body but most of the cases of this disorder occur at the hands, neck, skin creases and around the eyes and mouth.
Tinea Versicolor
This is a skin infection caused mainly due to a fungus named Malassezia where the fungus lives on the skin thereby affecting it. This can be caused due to certain factors such as excessive sweating, humid weather conditions, oily skin and compromised immune system. If occurring, you should consider taking topical antifungal medications for treatment of Tinea Versicolor. This is often associated with dandruff and hence any anti-dandruff shampoo will also help.
