Myth 1 – A slow heart rate might be because of a weak heart

Often people face a slower heart rate issues and it does not mean they have a weak heart. Sometimes this can be that you are more fit and healthy as your heart does not require to pump blood in the fashion it should be. If the person also feels dizziness, passing out feelings, breath shortenings or chest pain, this might mean there is not enough oxygen supply to the heart or a developing Coronary Artery Disease. In these cases, it is advised to visit your doctor as soon as possible.

Myth 2 – A normal heart rate means normal blood pressure

This myth amongst people needs to be sorted out as soon as possible. Sometimes the heart rate and blood pressure might be connected but at all other times, a normal heart rate does not necessarily imply normal blood pressure. You may not always realize your blood pressure if it is high or low and probably the vice versa. Even if the heart rate is normal, people might develop a chronic symptom of High or low Blood Pressure that can then link to weaken the heart. So, it is advisable in all cases that you go and get your blood pressure checked even if your heart rate seems normal.

Myth 3 –A normal heart rate is between 60-100 beats per minute

People have general assumption that any number from  60 to 100 per minute for the heartbeat is normal and must not be panicked upon. This is not true in any case and is pretty old standard. As per Suzanne Steinbaum, MD, Director of Women’s Heart Health at Lenox Hill Hospital, about 50-70 beats per minute in an adult can be considered a normal rate of heartbeat. A recent study also suggests that a heart rate of more than 76 beats during inactivity can be considered fatal and increases chances of Heart attack. Hence, we must shade the feeling that anything between 60-100 beats per minute can be considered safe.

Myth 4 –Higher pulse means more stress

People often associate pulse with stress factor. Stress and its origin can increase pulse rates but this is not the only reason why the Higher pulse should be bothered. There are various factors which can increase the pulse rate in the human being. It might be because of the exercise or a heated argument with someone or anxiety. Even certain weather conditions may make anxious and increase your pulse rate. So, this fear must be quashed.

Myth 5 – An erratic Heart rate means an impending Heart Attack

Sometimes we associate an erratic heartbeat with a heart attack and this is not entirely factual. This factor of erratic heart rate is called palpitation which means skipped some beats or speeds up. You should note that most of these palpitations are not life-threatening. There are various factors which can have an impact over palpitations such as –Alcohol, Caffeine, Exercise, Stress, Dehydration, Medication, Fever, Thyroid disorder, smoking or Dietary supplements such as goldenseal, motherwort or ephedra.  Having erratic heartbeat is not a threatening problem but it can start a bigger problem. You must contact your cardiologist for the same.
